New Year, Knew Fail

I never make new year resolutions because I know it will lead to failure.

The thing about convictions is that everyone has them.  Everyone has things they want to do with their life, things they want to change about themselves.

However, why do people never change?  Why can't we lose 20 pounds, why can't we get out of our parents homes, why can't we become more responsible with our money?

It is because that conviction is not supported with resolve.

When the push comes to shove, when we are dealt with the situation what is the condition of our resolve?

When we are dealt with a desire to lose 20 pounds, and we are driving home thinking of what to eat, how do we respond?

Do we drive home and make a meal that will cause us to eat less?  Or see the macdonald's on our left and swerve in?  Does our stomache and desire to be physically fufilled take precedent in our decision making?

Or does the inner drive from our core that is sick of the fat that is covering our core externalize?

I believe the countless split moments of decision making we are dealt with everyday determine what kind of human beings we become.

And those who are spiritually mature seem to look to God in those split decisions when they themselves cannot pull out resolve.

That is why the more santified and God-trusting people are, the more their lives seem to change.

So don't tell me you have conviction and dreams; Don't we all?  But show me your resolve, and more importantly, the resolve that is motivated by total surrender to Christ.

Just some food for thought.
